Biography--

Vickie L. Damro, 55, of Dysart, Iowa, died at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home Tuesday, June 26, 2018.

She was born July 12, 1962 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Leo M. and Lorena K. Steilen Phillips. She married Todd Damro on May 8, 1992 in Waterloo.

Vickie graduated from Don Bosco High School in 1980. She worked as in‑home child daycare provider for 32 years and was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville.

Vickie was a mom to everybody. She often told her family all she wanted in life was to be a mom and cherished all the time she was able to spend with her children and family. Her love for children extended beyond just her own three kids and included all of her “littles” from day care. As a result, Vickie could frequently be found attending dance recitals or tee-ball games.

Vickie also enjoyed camping trips and would generally be first in line to eat Todd’s campfire breakfasts or for craft beer tastings. She was very strong in her faith. Even in her struggles with cancer, Vickie was never angry and continued to love unconditionally. She would always say, “There is a plan,” because she believed it.

She is survived by her husband, Todd; a daughter, Katelyn (Joshua) Pauling of Waupaca, WI; two sons, Joseph (Emily) Damro and Noah Damro both of Dysart; a granddaughter, Ireland Pauling; five sisters, Karen (Rollie) Cahoy of Fredericksburg, Jolene (George) Pryor of Kansas City, MO, Renee Holland of Elberon. Cheryl (Jeff) Larison of LaPorte City, and Pam (Mike) Etringer of Evansdale; four brothers, Kenny (Debbie) Phillips of Magnolia, TX, Tom (Bernie) Phillips of Denver, CO, Larry Phillips of Evansdale, and Darell (Leisa) Phillips, of Gilbertville; her mother in law Deanne Damro of Waterloo; a sister in law Brook (Scott) DeVos of Savage, MN; a brother in law, Russ Alderman of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Janice Alderman; and father in law, Jeri Damro.
