Carl E. 'Bud' Swaim

August 12, 1932 - June 4, 2018

WATERLOO, IOWA - Carl E. 'Bud' Swaim, 85, of Waterloo, died Monday, June 4, at UnityPoint Health—Allen Hospital in Waterloo, of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 12, 1932, in Mason City, son of Abram and Dorothy Peterson Swaim. He married Verlynn 'Lynn' Beal in Mason City on Dec. 19, 1953.

Bud attended school in Mason City and worked for John Deere for 31 years, retiring from the PEC as a dyno operator. He served for 10 years in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was a member of Cedar Valley Community Church, served 25 years with the Black Hawk County Sheriff Reserves, 30 years on Veridian Credit Union board of directors and was a longtime member of UAW Local 838.

Survived by: his wife; three daughters, Carla (Gene) Schaefer of Gilbert, Lorrie (Dave) Oldenburger of Readlyn and Susan Uhlenhake of Waterloo; a son, Dan Swaim of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Ronald and Harlan; two sisters, Karen DeMaris and Diane Ott; a son-in-law, Tom Cozart; and a great-granddaughter, Piper Schaefer.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at Cedar Valley Community Church, with burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home (319) 233-6138 and for an hour before services at the church

Carl was a true family man. He was happiest when spending time with his family especially his grand- and great-grandkids.
