Gary R. Ross 1947-2018

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Gary Roland Ross, 71, of Corning, and formerly of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Wednesday May 23, at Corning Speciality Care, Corning.

He was born May 11, 1947, in Greene, Iowa, the son of Clifford Eugene and Dorothy Margaret (Esser) Ross. He married Barbara Poppe on June 18, 1966. They later divorced. He married Sally Ann Mills on Sept. 12 1987, in Waterloo, Iowa.

He graduated from Greene High School in 1965. He then attended Ellsworth Junior College for a short time. He served in the National Guard from 1967 to 1976. Gary was a businessman, owning two car washes in Waterloo, the University Car and the PDQ. He was also the owner of the Cardinal Lounge in Hudson for a short time. He then went back to school and graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1986. He then began working for the Social Security Administration until his retirement in 2003. In August of 2016, they moved to Corning.

Gary was a former member of the Elk's Blub and Rotary Club. He was a member of the Gasoline Dealer's Association, of which he was a former president.

Survived by: his wife; his children from his first marriage, Tammy Sutton and partner Charles Hill of Gilbert, Arizona, and Jason (Shelly) Ross of Waukee; his children from his second marriage, Jason (Dennae) Wilkening of Council Bluffs, and Shelly Parsons of Creston; his grandchildren: Amanda, Noele, Tiffany, Savanna, Kylie, Paige, Cheyenne, Cooper and Carsyn; four great-grandchildren; his brothers, Gene (Sandra) Ross and Dennis (Mary Jane) Ross, both of Greene; his sisters, Nancy (David) Boehmere of Waterloo and Susan Ross of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: his parents, and a brother, Robert Ross.

Memorial services: June 9, 2018 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, with burial in Hillside Cemetery in State Center.
