Thomas J. Lizer, 59, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Saturday, May 26, 2018, at UnityPoint Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

He was born August 23, 1958, in Pisgah, Iowa, the son of John and Annabelle (Simmons) Lizer. Tom married Debra Guyett on December 10, 1977 in Woodbine, Iowa. He graduated from West Harrison High School in Mondamin, Iowa, and was an agronomist and general manager with Latham Seed Company in Alexander, Iowa. Tom was past president of the Dike-New Hartford School Board, was a Cub Scout pack leader, and was a member and ordained high priest of Community of Christ in Cedar Falls. He loved his co-workers and his church family & friends. Tom loved his family and had a special place in his heart for those under four feet tall. Above all, he loved his God. Tom enjoyed camping, kayaking, reading, target practice with his boys, western movies, teasing, singing loud, collies and horses, and the hills of southwest Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Lizer, of Reinbeck; his children, Josh (Rosemary) Lizer of Augusta, Michigan, Jesse (Shannon) Lizer of Dike, Iowa, Reka (Joe) Buffington of Grundy Center, Iowa, Ben (Sarah) Lizer of Newhall, Iowa, Rogette (Daniel) Guthart of Port Richey, Florida, Avenia Lizer of Ottumwa, Iowa, Jurane Lizer of Waterloo and Vaishali Lizer of Reinbeck; the “apples of his eye”, his five grandchildren, Kole, Landon, Owen, Claire and Addison; his mother, Annabelle Lizer, of Missouri Valley, Iowa; his sister, Patricia (Jerome Neill) Olinger, of Omaha, Nebraska; his mother-in-law, Barb Guyett, of Woodbine; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick (Becky) Eickholt of Neligh, Nebraska, Jim (Lois) Andersen of Woodbine, Mike (Sherry) Guyett of Logan, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, John Lizer; his neice, Heather Hart, and his father-in-law, Larry Guyett.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Community of Christ in Cedar Falls, with burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. Visitation will be 3—7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where a 6:00 p.m. Remembrance Service will be conducted. Visitation also one hour before service at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
