Lois (Temple) Hansen (1928-2018)

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Lois Mary (Temple) Hansen, 89, of Cedar Falls, died April 20th at Western Home Communities-Windhaven.

Lois was born October 12, 1928, in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Reverend Dr. Herbert and Mildred (Donat) Temple.

On July 1, 1950, she married David Miller Hansen of Cedar Falls. Rev. Temple presided over their union as he was minister of First United Methodist Church from 1946 to 1954.

Lois graduated from Cornell College with a degree in elementary education. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. She was active in many community activities and clubs and was a past President of the PEO Sisterhood Chapter R, Tuesday Club, and Sartori Hospital Auxiliary.

Throughout her life, Lois was a devoted daughter, loving sister, caring wife, and wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She raised four rambunctious boys who grew up to be fantastic fathers. Lois orchestrated decades of family fun including holiday celebrations, family reunions, beach trips, sledding adventures, trips to Clear Lake, South America, Minnesota and Mexico, picnics, movie nights, croquet games and more. Lois celebrated her English heritage through delicious roast beef dinners with Yorkshire pudding and mince and lemon curd tarts.

Lois laughed often and enjoyed singing, playing handbells, UNI and Iowa sports, knitting, cooking and reading. She loved travelling, spending time at Clear Lake, and going to the theatre and symphony. Lois and Dave spent many happy years criss-crossing the nation and the globe. She was unfailingly gentle, kind, and selfless. She cared for those around her with sincerity and respect. She had a quick wit and infectious warmth.
