Walter Broten, Jr

May 3, 1933 - March 28, 2018

Biography--

Walter “Walt” Broten, Jr., 84, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 28th at Allen Hospice, in Waterloo, Iowa, of a massive stroke.

He was born May 3rd, 1933, in Rochester, MN., son of Walter and Esther Broten. He married Jeanette L Barnett on June 28, 1968 in Bereford, SD. Walt worked at John Deere for 29 years retiring in 1995, besides working at John Deere he also had Broten's Tree Service and Broten's Cement work on the side. He also was a volunteer for many years working at the Cedar Valley Food Bank, The Waterloo Amvets Honor Guard, White Clovers. At one time Walt served as President of the Waterloo Eagles and The Sons of Amvets Post 19.

Survived by: His wife; a daughter Dawn (Rex) Barto of Dike; two sons, Dennis (Mary) Richardson of Kasson Minnesota, Shane Broten of Iowa Falls; Skyla Broten, a Granddaughter living at home; two sister in-laws, Joann and Eileen both of Minnesota, 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces/nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by three brothers: Harry, Stan and Dick Broten; and by three sisters: Julie Cooley, Joyce Dwyer, and Dorothy Nelson.

Celebration of Life will be Monday April 2, 2018 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 p.m. all at New Day Christian Center, Evansdale, IA. Memorials may be directed to the family; an account is setup at Veridian Credit Union. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home assisted the family.
