June 10, 1919 - March 27, 2018

Agnes Dorothy Behrens passed away peacefully on March 27, 2018 due to a stroke. Agnes Dorothy Holm was born on June 10, 1919 in Sagerton, Texas. Her parents were Julius and Irene Franke Holm. She was the sixth of seven siblings with four older brothers and one older sister. Her father was a Lutheran pastor who served numerous parishes. She graduated from high school in Harper, Texas in 1937 and attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin.

Agnes married Glenn William Behrens in Cedar Falls, Iowa on April 10, 1942 just before he enlisted in the US Army as an officer. After the war they taught school together in Waucoma Iowa, where Glenn Jr and Patricia Ann were born. Agnes was a Physical Education teacher initially, but later taught math. Their third child, Deborah Ruth, was born in Austin, Texas on May 5, 1961. Later they moved to San Antonio.

Her husband, Glenn, died of a heart attack in 1968. Her daughter Patty tragically died in a car accident in 1971, shortly after her marriage to David Steen of Austin. Agnes eventually retired from John Marshall High School where she taught Geometry for many years. Aggie was an active member of St John’s Lutheran Church in downtown San Antonio.

She was preceded in death by her parents Julius and Irene Holm, her four brothers, Bernard, Arthur, Julius and Theo, her older sister, Lydia, her husband Glenn and her daughter Patricia Ann Steen.

She is survived by her son, Glenn Jr and daughter, Deborah, her younger sister, Irene Bulgerin, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at St John’s Lutheran Church in San Antonio. A graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, at Hillcrest Cemetery, rural Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church, San Antonio, Texas. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
