Biography--

Robert I. “Bob” Glawe, age 79, of Waterloo, died Thursday, March 29, 2018 at UnityPoint Allen Hospital.

He was born April 1, 1938 in Elkader, Iowa the son of Irvin and Anne (Lauer) Glawe. Bob graduated from Manchester (Iowa) High School with the Class of 1957. He was united in marriage with Kathy E. Roethler on August 26, 1962 in Lime Springs, Iowa.

Bob began his career as an electrician and later worked as a manager for Bishop’s Buffet for over twenty years. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving two tours of duty as a flight engineer for C130 cargo planes.

He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waterloo and the Cedar Valley Woodworkers. Bob loved working with wood and was fond of home improvement projects. He was an inventor and held several patents, designing one of the first car child safety seats and a specialized fish rod holster among other items. Bob received national recognition while working in South Bend, Indiana where he organized the first mall “trick or treat” program to ensure that children had a safe place to celebrate Halloween.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy; three sons: Jeff Glawe, Daniel (Sara) Glawe and Ron (Cindy) Glawe, all of Waterloo; five grandchildren: Kelsey, Dylan, Melissa, Emily and Allison; his twin brother, Roger (Darlene) Glawe of Janesville, Iowa; and a brother, Gene Glawe of Baraboo, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Karen Glawe.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, 3146 Kimball Avenue in Waterloo.

Full military honors will be accorded by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and the US Marine Corps Honors Detail.
