Obituary for Patrick M. Schmit

Patrick M. Schmit, 53, of Elk Run Heights, Iowa, died Friday March 23 at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital, in Waterloo, Iowa.

He was born February 26, 1965 in Waterloo, son of Eugene and Beverly Takin Schmit. He married Brenda Weber on June 28, 1986 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville.

Pat Graduated from Don Bosco High School. After graduation, he worked for Omega Cabinetry as a wood worker where he stayed for 24 years, until moving on to work for Becker Cabinetry.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda; two sons, Mitchell (Jill Kobbe) of Cedar Rapids, and Austin of West Des Moines; a daughter, Olivia Schmit of Cedar falls; his father, Eugene of Gilbertville; four siblings: Angie McClain of Ames, Dana (Becky) Schmit of Jesup, Carla (Curt) Chorpening of Bandon and Thomas Schmit of Denver; parents-in-law, Allen and JoAnn Weber.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dillon; a brother, Charles; and by his mother, Beverly.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 28 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Public visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Church in Gilbertville where there will be a 3 p.m. Catholic Order of the Foresters Rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church on Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to the Church, the Bosco System or the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics

Faith and family came first! Spending time with his family and friends was priority. He loved the outdoors. Bow hunting, turkey hunting and fishing were his favorites, not to mention the pride he took in his wood work!
