Bert Donald Medhaug was born in Lime Springs, Iowa, on November 23, 1922, son of Martin and Lena (Johnson) Medhaug. After high school graduation, he worked at Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) Camp in Cresco until he was drafted into the United States Army serving in the South Pacific during World War II. Following an honorable discharge, Bert returned to Iowa and worked for Waterloo Valve Spring (Waterloo Industries).

On May 7, 1949, he married Fay Morehouse in Waterloo. Together, they owned and operated Bert and Fay’s Jet Tavern until retiring in 1997. Bert enjoyed yardwork, gardening and garage sales. He traveled with his family through much of North America from Canada to Mexico. Bert really loved his Chicago Cubs and celebrated their World Series Win in 2016.

Bert passed away at home on Friday, March 16, 2018, at the age of 95 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fay; four brothers: Sanford, Howard, Edwin, and Gene Medhaug; four sisters: Elsie Hartung, Anna Inman, Lucille Mintey and Elnora Murphy. He is survived by his son, Bert Duane (Jenny) Medhaug Jr. of Waterloo; his daughter, Joyce Meyer of Waterloo; foster daughter: Pam Cotton-Cole; seven grandchildren: Jennifer, Becky, Dalton, Haley, Amy, Adam and Angie; and Sixteen great-grandchildren.
