Waterloo, Iowa - Stephen W. Strassburg 60, of Waterloo, died Monday, March 5, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born April 30, 1957, in Waterloo, the son of Daryl and Janice Jacobson Strassburg. He married JoAnn Jennings Hamman. They later divorced. He met his current spouse Linda Close in 2001.

Stephen graduated from Central High School in 1975 and held various jobs after graduation; most recently he was employed by Midwest Janitorial Services.

Survived by: Linda Close; two sisters, Staci (Bob) Leatherman of San Antonio, TX and Stefanie (Steve) Johnson of Holland, PA.; Linda’s daughters, Tammy Close of Kansas City, MO, and Abbie Close-Chalupnik of Las Vegas, NV; a granddaughter, Sequoia; a grandson, Simeon; stepmother, Mary Strassburg of Waterloo; a half-sister, Shellie (Troy) Danielson; a half-brother, Mark (Niki) Strassburg both of Cedar Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, John Cole.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. A visitation will be from 9-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Steve was a compassionate, gentle soul who loved his family and friends, fishing, rescue greyhounds, the Rocky Mountains, the Denver Broncos, and the Waterloo Blackhawks. Steve gave the gift of life through tissue donation.
