Obituary for Barbara Yates

Barb Yates passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018 of natural causes.

She was born March 8, 1950 to Zeta Earle. Barb lived with her mother and grandma Winnie Earle until she graduated from West High School in 1969.

Barb spent most of her summers with her Aunt, Gladys and Uncle Alvin Lubbert in Fayette, Iowa. It was there that she met “the boy across the street”, Joe Yates”. They were married on May 31, 1969. Barb and Joe lived in California and Washington while Joe finished his enlistment with the US Navy.

In June of 1970, they returned to Waterloo where they raised two sons, Jeff and Mike. Barb worked several part time jobs that allowed her to put her family first.

Diagnosed with heart failure, Barb waited for a heart to become available. In June of 1996, she received a second chance in life with a new heart. Barb and her family are forever grateful to the donor family who gave her that blessing. This allowed her time to see her sons married, start families, and to enjoy her five grandchildren, who gave her such joy.

Anyone who knew Barb was aware of her love of Elvis Presley and the color purple. Barb became an avid fan of any sport in which her grandchildren participated. Going to football, baseball, basketball and volleyball games whenever she could. Barb was their greatest fan.

Barb always put others first, she was the rock of the family whom we loved dearly. Anyone who knew Barb appreciated her strength, courage and her will to live.
