Sandra E. Slater 1941-2018

Sandra E. Slater, 76 of Waterloo, Iowa, died February 21, 2018, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, after a brief battle with cancer.

She was born November 15, 1941, in Waterloo, the daughter of Vernon and Berdella (Smith) Deitrick. She married Gary Ohrt in 1961, they later divorced. She married James Slater in 1978, they later divorced.

Sandy held various jobs throughout the Cedar Valley. She was employed at Covenant Medical Center in 1986 retiring in 2004, to care for her mother. She later returned to work part-time at the Isle of Capri Casino.

Sandy was an avid Elvis Pressley fan who loved watching old westerns and professional wrestling on T.V. She enjoyed playing bingo & cards with her friends at Cedar River Towers. She also followed Bill Chrastil the entertainer (Elvis impersonator) whenever he preformed close to Waterloo. She enjoyed spending time on the computer playing games, shopping, and socializing with friends and family on Facebook. We will all miss our birthday cards.

She is survived by a son, Robert (Mary) Slater of Waterloo; seven grandchildren: April (Christopher) Montgomery of Cedar Rapids, Heather (Mark Kallaus) Slater of Independence, Misty (Lucas Stoakes) Slater, Danielle Baker, Dylan Behm, Eric Slater and Jordan Slater all of Waterloo; thirteen great-grandchildren: Cameron, DeVontae, Vanna, Bekkah, Tashie, Peyton, Terryion, Max, Kadein, Laniyah, Brynnlie, AMonte, Rylen and expecting another grandson in July; a brother Gary Deitrick of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Cheryle Ohrt, a brother Gene Deitrick.

Services: Visitation Monday March 5th, 5-7 p.m. with a service beginning at 7 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Waterloo. There will be a private family burial at a later date.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.
