Obituary for Joseph L. Schmadeke

Joseph L. Schmadeke, 79, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Saturday, February 24, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

He was born February 2, 1939, in Waterloo, son of Lavern and Frances Durnan Schmadeke. He married Rita Bronsema on November 5, 1966 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Joe was employed with John Deere for 31 years, retiring in 1999. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army.

Survivors include his wife; four sons: Eric (Laura) Schmadeke, Craig (Mary) Schmadeke and Brad Schmadeke, all of Waterloo and Paul (Andrea) Schmadeke of Brandon; eight grandchildren: Aaron, David, Grace, Justin, Natalie, Jenna, Benjamin and Jeremy; and two brothers, Edward (Carol) Schmadeke of Cedar Falls and Charles (Ellen) Schmadeke of Solon.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 5 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary. Visitation will continue at the church for an hour before services on Thursday.

Joe loved his family and will be greatly missed.
