Dean Alan Westberg was born February 17, 1947, in Minnesota, son of Kenneth and Vera (Ward) Westberg. He was raised and attended schools in Cedar Falls, graduating with the CFHS Class of 1965.

Following graduation, Dean was married to Sheila Corwin and the couple had three children. They later divorced. Dean met Katherine (Meehan) Cremeans while attending Parents Without Partners meetings and the couple married in August of 1992, living in Reinbeck with their beautifully blended family. He worked for Hawkeye Steel and John Deere in a variety of positions retiring in 2007. After retiring he worked for the City of Cedar Falls as a season summer employee with the Park’s Department.

Dean was an avid outdoorsman and trained hunting dogs and carrier pigeons. He hunted snow geese and deer in Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin – always with family and friends in tow. Dean owned a trailer in Lansing and loved spending time there with his children and grandchildren. As they grew older, he sold the trailer so he and Kathy could have more time to follow them in their activities. Dean enjoyed woodworking and mechanics and would help anybody – though it was done “his way”. In more recent years, Dean and Kathy traveled a bit more, enjoying the warmer weather in places such as Cancun and California. In February of 2017, they moved from Reinbeck to Waterloo.

Dean passed away at the age of 71 years on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Unity Point Health – Allen Memorial Hospital, in Waterloo, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dean is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kathy; three sons: Jeffery (Christina) Westberg of Dike, Jeremy (Crystal) Cremeans of Toledo, and Jason (Angela) Cremeans of Waterloo; two daughters, Roberta Westberg of Evansdale and Karena (Ruben) Donohue of Dunkerton; 13 grandchildren: Madeline, Angelina, Tayla, Jenna, Jordyn, Faith, Madison, Cayden, Jennifer, Justin, Julie, Mitchell and Paige (Alec); and by nine great-grandchildren: Alejo, Ezequiel, Eliana, Javier, Evanna, Ariyana, Aubriella, Paisley, Ayden and one more, Baby Brandt, on the way.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Scleroderma Foundation, Unity Point Hospice Suite or Hawkeye Area Down Syndrome Association.
