Robert “Bob” Hansen

May 17, 1945 - February 7, 2018

Robert “Bob” Hansen, 72, of Cedar Falls, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

A memorial gathering of friends will be held on Tuesday, February 13th from 1:00 PM until the time of the Memorial Service at 2:00 at the Engelkes-Abels Dike Chapel, 680 Main St., Dike, Iowa. Following the service, the family would like to invite those in attendance to the Dike American Legion for refreshments. A private burial will take place at a later date. Bob was born on May 17, 1945 in Cedar Falls, Iowa to his parents George & Marvel (Toombs) Hansen. He grew up in the Dike area with his family where he attended school, and later graduated from Dike High School. After high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Philippines from 1963 to 1967, when he was honorably discharged.

On May 3, 1969, Bob was united in marriage to Therese Dunt in Gilbertville. The couple welcomed a son and a daughter into their family. She preceded him in death on January 9, 2015. The couple and their children later moved to Mason City where Bob began working at the Clear Lake Bakery, specializing in making cookies. When his 2 children were grown, Bob and Teri moved back to the Dike area, settling in Cedar Falls.

He then began his career at Hy-Vee in Waterloo where he worked in the bakery department. He retired full time but continued working for Hy-Vee part time. On December 5, 2017, Bob was united in marriage to Janet Hewitt in Waverly, Iowa. The couple made their home in Cedar Falls.

Bob was an avid bowler and sports fan. He loved baseball, dirt track racing and his fishing trips to Canada. He was known to be a jokester and have a wonderful sense of humor. He brought joy to so many people and they will miss his wit, charm, and funny personality.

He is survived by his wife Janet Hansen of Cedar Falls; mother Marvel Hansen of Cedar Falls; son Shane (Sara) Hansen of Belmond, IA and Sharla (Mark Hadacek) Hansen of Mason City, IA; grandchildren Jordan Hansen of Belmond, Cassie Hansen of Waterloo, Jacob, Zach & Summer Hansen of Belmond, Brianna & Hansen-Simmer, Isaac Donahoo, Natasha, Spencer & Drake Hadacek of Mason City; great grandchildren Dax, Drayton and Danika; sisters Brenda (JP) Hansen, Sarah Stoffregen and brothers Jim (Coni) Hansen and Jon “Byrd” Hansen; many extended family members. Bob is preceded in death by his father George; first wife Teri; brother Phil Hansen.
