Edward Stanhope

Edward Junior Stanhope was born on January 21, 1927 to Edward and Irene (Anderson) Stanhope in Finchford, Iowa. He was a World War II veteran, serving his country in the Army from 1945-1949. The military is where Edward found his love of aviation and received his pilot’s license. He continued to fly privately after he left the military and spent many years as a Commercial Pilot License Instructor.

Edward married the love of his life Patricia Arildsen on May 7, 1950, spending 67, wonderful years together. Edward spent 40 years, after his time in the service, working at the Rath Packing Plant as a Supervisor.

He retired from the company in 1985 and spent the rest of his retirement doing the things he loved most such as: fishing, boating, gardening, and a special love for dogs. Edward also enjoyed many years spending time with family and friends at the families Minnesota cabin. He also spent many years serving his community on the Waterloo Riverfront Commission and on the Rath Credit Union Board of Directors.

Edward Stanhope was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 57 years serving as trustee and deacon during his time.

Edward Stanhope died on Friday, January 26, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Fay Stanhope, Harold Stanhope, Gary Stanhope, and Marvin Stanhope; and by four sisters: Verna Stanton, Marjorie Snodgrass, Jeanette Moore, and Dorothy Bass.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Jeff (Jan) Stanhope of Washburn; by two daughters, Julie Morelock of Lillian, Alabama, and Jill (Roger) Baker of Waverly; six grandchildren: Todd (Manda) Stanhope, Bethany(Aaron) Stahl, Bryan Morelock, Jackie Morelock, Joe Baker, Julie (Daniel) Hanawalt, Jon Baker; and by one great-grandchild on the way.
