Biography--

Doris Jean Winzenburg, 87, of Waterloo, died Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Sunrise Hill Care and Rehab in Traer, Iowa, of Alzheimer’s disease.

Doris was born October 5, 1930 in Eldon, daughter of Lester Wilbur and Margaret Isabel (Bates) Carr.

She graduated from Eldon High School in 1948. Doris married Lyle J. Parson in May 1948; he preceded her in death in August 1957. She married William “Bill” Winzenburg on October 7, 1958 at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Evansdale.

Doris was the manager and owner of Lazy H Motel in Denver. She also worked in various restaurants in the area.

She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was a part of the Lutheran Missions community, Ladies of Ascension, and Women of Life.

Doris is survived by: her husband, William “Bill” of Waterloo; three sons: Tom (Julie) Parson of Des Moines, Terry (Mary) Parson of Storm Lake, and Jim (Zena) Parson of Los Angeles, CA; a daughter, Lori Kendrick of Tiffin; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Pat (Jim) Dzekunskas of Illinois; and a brother, Robert (Rickii) Carr of Colorado Springs, CO.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; two sisters: JoAnn Temple and Alice Fisher; and a brother, Donald Carr.

Doris loved gardening, refinishing wood furniture, traveling, cooking, baking, camping, and fishing. She was a nurturer of all things. She always made the best of every situation.
