Clara M. Horihan

April 3, 1931 - January 8, 2018

Clara M. Horihan, 86, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Monday, January 8, 2018, at the Friendship Village Pavilion.

She was born April 3, 1931, in St. Lucas, daughter of Martin and Gertrude Martin Kruse. She married Donald E. Horihan November 14, 1953 in St. Lucas. He died August 1, 2007.

Clara graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in La Crosse, Wis. in 1953. She worked in Owatonna, Minn. and then St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo until 1966, when she became a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Mike (Jeanne Goche-Horihan) Horihan of West Branch and Greg (Jean) Horihan of Rockford, Ill.; two daughters, Mary (Laurence) Brocka of New Hartford and Sue Horihan of Anamosa; ten grandchildren, Matt, Tim (Kate) and Meghan Horihan, Chris Akers and Stacie (Dan) Loveless, Jessica and Emily Feldmann, Elizabeth, Ryan and Margaret Horihan; two great-grandchildren, Makayla Hanson and Jase Loveless; three sisters, Theresa Breuer of La Crescent, Minn., Marcella Horihan of Marshfield, Wis. and Phyllis (Al) Malin of Westby, Wis. and a twin brother, Fr. Clarence Kruse of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Nellie Kruse of Fort Atkinson and a brother-in-law, Chester Blechinger of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Fr. Charles Kruse and Ron Kruse and two sisters, Eileen Blechinger and Alice Kruse.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 7 pm vigil service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church.

Memorials will be established at a later date.

Clara was a loving mother and supportive spouse of 53 years. Although she was challenged by arthritis she always had a positive attitude. She was an avid shopper and garage saler and a spectacular bargain hunter. She enjoyed gardening and her special relationship with her twin brother, Fr. Clarence.
