Kent Ralph Johnston was born September 9, 1937, in Clayworks, Iowa, to Donald and Verona (Roberts) Johnston. When he was seven years old, his family moved to Waterloo. Kent graduated from West High School in 1957.

He married Kay Neuhalfen in 1959 and later they were divorced. On May 16, 1992, he married Kathy Richardson. Kent was an accomplished tool and die maker at several area machine shops. He was an avid hunter and fisher. Kent enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. He spent many hours in his garage building things for his home and yard.

Kent Ralph Johnston passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Donald (Skip), Allen, and Richard; five sisters: Patty Kieffer, Gretchen Watson, Billie Myers, LaDonne Buchan, and Martha Hartman.

Kent’s survivors include his wife: Kathy; son, Kris of Cedar Falls; daughter, Betsy of Connecticut; two step-daughters, Jodi (Mike) Cale of Lincoln, Nebraska and Jill (Christian) Swangel of Hudson; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed in his honor to Cedar Valley Hospice or charity of your choice.

A family directed celebration of life will take place on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Hudson Community Center on Jefferson and 6th street. Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories assisted the family with the cremation.
