Biography--

Cecil E. Taylor, 78, of Evansdale, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born March 31, 1939 in Lansing, Tennessee the son of James A. and Minnie Bowling Taylor. His mother died when he was six years old and he was raised in Virginia by his father and stepmother, Cassie Taylor.

Cecil served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956-1959. He married Janet Parsley on June 30, 1961 in Wilmington, Delaware.

He was a lifetime member of the Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, where he was Chaplain for the last 20 years, volunteer Evansdale Fireman from 1973-1988 and a member of the UAW Local 838.

Cecil and his wife spent the last 20 years wintering in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, he enjoyed golfing, playing pool, very active in the Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Janet Taylor of Evansdale; two sons, Tim (Karen) Taylor of Wichita, Kansas, Jim (Patti) Taylor of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Bev (Brian) Beck of Washburn; six grandchildren, Michael Taylor of Louisville, Kentucky, Cory Taylor of Cedar Falls, Amanda (Doug) Miller of Cedar Falls, Garrett Beck of Washburn, Tori Taylor of Wichita, Kansas, Brylee Beck of Washburn; two sisters, Letha “Marie” (Pete) Gillespie of Bluefield, West Virginia, Opal Sluss of Tazewell, Virginia; one brother, Howard Hamby of Jacksonville, North Carolina and one sister-in-law, Beulah Hamby of Evansdale.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother; two sisters, June Taylor and Cleasia Taylor; one brother, Fred Hamby; and a sister-in-law, Aurelia “Lea” Hamby.
