Obituary for Dale Edward Rickard

Cedar Falls, Iowa – Dale Edward Rickard, age 93, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, December 23, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa.

He was born August 24, 1924, in Rolfe, Iowa, the son of John and Pearl (Lanning) Rickard. He graduated from Rolfe High School before entering the US Navy.

On October 1, 1950, he married Margie Middents in Kamrar. Dale owned and operated Rickard’s Sporting Goods and Valu-Mart in Cedar Falls from 1960-1992, before becoming an independent salesman for H&H Lights working up until his death.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Kurt (Kathryn) of Cedar Falls, and Clark (Twyla) of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Joan (Russ) Knock of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren: Seth Rickard of San Diego, CA, Jared Rickard, and Kathryn and Ellary Knock of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sydney Knock; two sisters, Ernestine and Arna Rickard; and four brothers: Ralph, Ivan, Keith, and Everett “Brownie” Rickard.

Memorial services will be 11am Friday, December 29, at First Presbyterian Church, Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 4-7 Thursday, December 28 with a 7pm Masonic service at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, and one hour prior to the service at church.

Memorials may be directed to the family or the church.
