Bill G. McConnell, 85, of Waterloo died Monday, December 11, 2017 at the Cedar Valley Hospice House of natural causes.

He was born May 30, 1932, in Appanoose County, son of Claude and Verna Sparks McConnell.

He married Bonnie L. Heaivilin on June 28, 1958, at Sharon Chapel in rural Centerville, Iowa.
Bill graduated from Cincinnati High School in Cincinnati, Iowa in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He graduated from Northeast Missouri State College in 1960, receiving a bachelor’s degree in business.

He worked for CIT Finance Company, Chamberlin Manufacturing Company and was employed by the Waterloo Community Schools for 25 years, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of Cedar Valley Community Church. Bill enjoyed time with his family, gardening, yard work, camping, traveling and church activities. He was an Iowa Hawkeyes fan and a Chicago Cubs fan.

Survived by his wife, Bonnie McConnell; two sons, Kevin (Carole) of Altoona, Iowa and Brian (Carrie) of Wayzata, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Josh (Kristen) McConnell, Sally McConnell (Dan), Amy (Derek) Love, Andrew McConnell (Shelly), Megan and Nick McConnell; five great-grandchildren, Micah and Charlotte McConnell, Jax-Ryan and Kjirsti Love, and Mackenzie Johnson; one sister, Janie (Rodger) Barrell, and brother-in-law, James Kaster.

Preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Bonnie Johnson and Barbara Kaster.
