John David Harken

August 13, 1956 - November 26, 2017

Waterloo, Iowa - John D. Harken 61, of Waterloo, died Sunday, November 26, at home. John was born August 13, 1956 in Waterloo the son of Herbert and Lois Etjen Harken.

John attended West High School and graduated in 1974. He attended UNI and Hawkeye Community College. He worked at John Deere before moving to Kansas City. In 2002, he moved back to Waterloo and was an electrical mechanic with Tyson Foods, where he worked for 14 years.

He is survived by his mother; two brothers, Dale (Kati) Harken of Centennial, Colo, and Dean Harken of Wamego, Kan; four sisters: Gretchen Harken of Cedar Falls, Becky Koester of North Liberty, Toni (Doug) Carlo of Lincoln, Neb., and Karen Harken of Centennial, Colo.; nine nieces and nephews; and 11 great-nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: his father; and a sister-in-law, Deb Harken

A visitation will be 4-7:00 p.m. Thursday November 30, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street. A private family burial will take place in Aplington at a later date. Please join the family in a celebration of life at the Volks Haus in Waterloo on Saturday, December 2, from 2-5:00 p.m.
