Obituary for Yvonne Ceilley

CEDAR FALLS – Yvonne J. Ceilley, 85, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died peacefully on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at her home, surrounded by family.

She was born January 28, 1932 in Genoa, Nebraska, daughter of Carl Stewart and Esther (Gustafson) Peterson. She married Edward H. Ceilley on September 12, 1953, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death on January 14, 2008.

Yvonne graduated from Cedar Falls High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at the University of Iowa Hospital, Sartori Hospital and Dr. Ceilley’s office, retiring in 2001.

Yvonne lived a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, music, and art. She didn’t just raise eight children with the love of her life, Dr. Edward Ceilley; she nurtured their talents and spirits so that they could thrive and explore their full potential. This meant everything from allowing snakes in a son’s bedroom to turning the living room into a theatre, or hauling horse trailers to showgrounds. When they were grown, she enjoyed her grandchildren’s activities. After Ed’s retirement, she became part of his vintage car support team as they traveled across the country to his races. After his death, she continued to be active with swimming, gardening, bridge, attending concerts, plays and her weekly coffee group.

Survived by: four daughters, Angela (Steve) Hayes of Iowa City, René (Brad) Delk of Los Osos, CA, Colette (Tim) Slaven of Mason City, and Doreen (Brian) Loring of Iowa City; three sons, Greg (Julie) Ceilley of Plymouth, WI, David (Lori) Ceilley and Dan (Beth) Ceilley, both of Ft. Myers, FL; seventeen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Reece (Bett) Peterson of Cedar Falls; a sister, Mary (Jonathon) Peterson of Los Angeles, CA; three nieces, Jenna (Nigel) Briand of Los Angeles, Hanna Peterson of Long Beach, CA, and Julie Peterson of Arizona; two grandnieces and a grandnephew.

Preceded in death by a son, Paul Ceilley; two brothers, Dwight and Clair Peterson; and a sister, Fern Peterson Vanderber.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Richardson Funeral Service where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation also for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Waterloo UnityPoint Hospice, Waterloo UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital-Community Cancer Center, or Allen College School of Nursing
