Biography--

Mary Jane Shirk-Dickinson, 91, of Waterloo, died at Friendship Village Pavilion on Sunday, November 12, 2017.

She was born on October 29, 1926 in Waterloo; the daughter of Russell E. and Nora Hedrick Smith. Mary Jane graduated from West High School in 1946.

She married Harold Shirk on September 12, 1944 at Waterloo First Methodist Church, he preceded her in death on March 10, 1995. She married John Dickinson on October 29, 1996 in Mesa, AZ, he preceded her in death on May 25, 1999.

Mary Jane worked for Dr. Richard Driver in the Black’s building during high school; she later was a bookkeeper for Medical Associates in Cedar Falls, retiring in 1973.

She was a member of Trinity Bible Church in Cedar Falls. Mary Jane enjoyed traveling. She especially cherished time spent with her family.

Survivors include a daughter, Janelle (Arnie) Johnson of Independence, IA; daughter, Linda (Ron) Leonard of McDonough, GA; daughter, Mary Marienau of Rochester, MN; son, Robert (Tracey) Shirk of Waterloo, IA; son, Richard (Rochelle) Shirk of Plymouth, MN; daughter, Debra (Ken) Henze of Waterloo, IA; son, David (Becky) Shirk of Waterloo, IA; 15 grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Dianne (Bill) Moran of Cedar Falls, IA; stepson, Steve (Sandi) Dickinson of Corcoran, MN; and stepdaughter, Tammy (Arnie) Dickinson Wilcox of Washington D.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Harold and John; and by a sister, Arlene Smith.
