Biography--

James E. "Jim" Sage, 84, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Saturday, November 4, 2017 at NorthCrest Specialty Care.

Jim was born December 2, 1932, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Frances Rainbow Sage. He married Ann Farmer on June 7, 1959, in Van Horne, Iowa.

Jim graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1950. Received a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State Teacher’s College (UNI) in Social Science in 1958. He is a veteran of the United States Army.

Jim was a farmer, and had been President and Treasurer of Rainbow Farms, Inc., a family farm corporation.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, Elder, Treasurer, and Sunday School teacher; Black Hawk County Draft Board from 1960-1967, Waterloo Community School Board from 1970-1973 where he also served as Board President; former President of Black Hawk County Farm Bureau Board; former District 1 Director of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, a member of the Black Hawk County Soil Conservation District from 1973-1976 where he had served as Chairman. Jim was named Iowa Master Pork Producer in 1965; Iowa Master Farmer in 1980; received the Iowa 4-H Alumni Award in 1988; Inducted into the East High School Hall of Fame in 1973; and Inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame in 2009.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Sage of Waterloo; son Timothy Sage of Van Horne; daughter Amy (Dan) Herring of Prairie Village, Kansas; son Craig (Terry) Sage of Waterloo; and son Patrick (Tracy) Sage of Batavia, Illinois. He is also survived by grandchildren: Kyle (Heather) Sage and Mack Sage, Jordan and Leah Herring, Alannah, Mallory, Mitchell Sage and Nora Sage; and a nephew Jim Huntington and family.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Carol Sage Huntington, and nephew David Huntington.
