#2:

Amber “Susan” Swehla, 56, went to be with her Heavenly Father on October 29, 2017 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Susan was born July 8, 1961 in Sasebo Japan to Michael and Sumiko Baker. Her mother passed away when Susan was very young and she was raised by her father and loving step-mother, Mary. Susan spent her time raising her children at home and was a self-employed childcare provider for many years.

She was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and she served on Christ the King’s ProLife Committee. She was also a member of Iowa Right to Life. Susan’s faith and her devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary was number one in her life followed by her love and commitment to her family.

She was happiest when she was with her family – Mark, her daughters, her boys and grandkids. She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and being outdoors soaking up the sunshine.

Susan is survived by her husband of 35 years, Mark; children, Shannon (Brian) Brown, Chelsea (Ian Richardson) Swehla, Kendra (David) Frazier, Luke Swehla, Caleb Swehla and Elijah Swehla; parents, Michael and Mary Baker; sister, Danielle (Andrew) Carne; mother-in-law, Madonna Swehla; her beloved grandchildren, Ashlyn, Myla, Dominic, Melodi, Maisey, Gemma, Lucy, Max and Noah; and a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sumiko Baker and father-in-law, Wilson Swehla.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. with the Rosary and Prayer Vigil at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 2nd at the church. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 3rd at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be directed in the form of donation to Christ the King ProLife Committee in loving memory of Susan.
