Donna Rae Caldwell was born December 8, 1937 in Clear Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Harley and Lucille (Hanna) VanHorn.

She met L. James Caldwell in Mason City and the couple were married in December of 1956. Donna and Jim moved to Waterloo for his employment where they raised three sons and a daughter. She was a very talented lady with a love for crafts. Donna was also “The Best Cook” and her pastries were legendary among her family.

She loved peanut butter and onion sandwiches which was a staple diet for her great-grandfather’s family of 14 children and remained a family favorite.

Donna passed away at Manor Care of Waterloo on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the age of 79 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gene VanHorn; and a sister, Maxine Colstrup.

Donna is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jim; three sons: Dale Caldwell, Lonny Caldwell, and Todd Caldwell all of Waterloo; a daughter, Jill Lancaster of Mendota Heights, MN; two brothers, Ben (Eva) VanHorn of Columbus, WI and Jack VanHorn of Northwood, Iowa; a sister, Anita (Harvey) of Texas; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
