Norma Kathryn Owens was born on December 4, 1939, in Waterloo, the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Carr) Mitchell. Norma graduated from Geneseo High School in 1957 and from Iowa State Teacher’s College.

She married Glen Piepergerdes in 1964 and later divorced. Two children were born to that union.

Norma married Jerald Owens in 1981. He preceded her in death in 2012.

Norma was a member of New Horizons Band for many years. She was very spiritual and enjoyed going to different churches. In 2016, Norma moved to Friendship Village in Waterloo and was active in all of their activities and enjoyed the company of many new friends. On October 23, 2017, the Lord received another angel when Norma died at the age of 77 at Friendship Village.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Claudette Sharp. Norma is survived by a son, Joe Piepergerdes of Thornton, Colorado; a daughter, Nola (James) Edris of Grand Junction, Colorado; a brother, Dennis (Marlys) Mitchell of Cedar Falls; and many loving family members.
