February 11, 1931 - October 18, 2017

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Harry J. Owczarek, 86, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at the Western Home Communities Nation Cottage.

He was born February 11, 1931, near Pound, Wisconsin, the son of Matthew and Augusta (Kostreva) Owczarek. He married Mary Lou Friesen on June 1, 1951 in Mountain Lake, MN. She preceded him in death on Oct 15, 1997. He married Esther Bishop on June 19, 1999 in Waterloo.

He graduated from Oconto Falls High School and St. Paul Bible College with a degree in missions. He worked as a plumbing and heating contractor in Butterfield, Minnesota, before becoming the camp director at Big Sandy Bible Camp in McGregor, Minnesota. He finished his career working and eventually owning Meester’s Plumbing in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Survived by: four daughters; Pamela (Dr. William) Ronzheimer of Shoreview, Minnesota, Cherry (Marlin) Schmidt, of Salem, SD, Holly (Garth) Engwall, of Champlin, Minnesota, and Karmyn (Tim) Vogelaar, of Antioch, TN; two sons, Dr. Keith of Marysville, WA and Kevin (Cheryl) of Watertown, Minnesota; a sister, Mary (Robert) Gruber of Des Moines; three sisters-in-law, Berneice Shevey of Greendale, WI, Bonnie (Dwayne) Herman of Devils Lake, ND, and Pat (Earl) Spurlin of Nevis, Minnesota; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: a son, Dean; a sister, Martha Parker; and a brother, George Shevey.

Services: will be 10am Monday, October 23 at Hagerman Baptist Church in Waterloo with burial in Butterfield Mennonite Cemetery in Butterfield, Minnesota. Visitation will be Sunday, October 22 from 3:30-5:30pm at Richardson Funeral Service and also for one hour prior to the service at the church.
