Obituary for Ronald Kuenstling

Ronald “Ron” Kuenstling said his last slightly inappropriate, sarcastic joke on October 10th, 2017, at home and surrounded by family.

Ron was born September 28th, 1953 in Waterloo, Iowa, and was the favorite son of Bob and Sonja (Gramlich) Kuenstling. He was a family man above all else. Ron married the love of his life, Ina (Mangrich), June 29th, 1974 and they were blessed with two sons: Max & Lee. He was a mechanic at John Deere for over 32 years, “keeping the machines that make the machines running” and a proud member of UAW 838.

Ron liked crispy bacon, Miller Lite, Westerns, smoking, playing cards, and cruising on his Triumph. His strength and stubbornness served him well, battling his cancer for over four years -- far exceeding his prognosis. Ron will always be remembered as one who looked for the best in others and shared a joke and a smile.

Survived by: his devoted wife of 43 years, Ina, and his proudest accomplishments: his sons Max (Tess) & Lee (Amber), and grandson Emmett. Additionally, he is survived by his “much older” sister, Peggy (Dave) VanSyoc, and a crazy bunch of family and friends.

Preceded in death by: his grandparents, Max & Emma Kuenstling and George & Elizabeth Gramlich, and his parents Bob & Sonja Kuenstling.

Services: Visitation will be at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service (300 W Ridgeway Ave) on Thursday, October 12th, starting at 4:00 pm, with a short vigil at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 13th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo, IA at 11:00 am, with a viewing in the Jubilee Entrance starting at 10:00 am.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

The Kuenstling family would like to thank all the caring and compassionate people who helped him through his final journey, especially those at Unity Point Hospice and Unity Point Community Cancer Center.
