Obituary for William John Rice

William John “Bill” Rice, 55 of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Monday, September 18, 2017, at his home.

He was born Feb. 25, 1962 in Cedar Falls, the son of Robert Lewis and Patricia Ruth Britton Rice. He married Cathy Nelson July 29, 1995 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

William graduated from Cedar Falls High School and UNI with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Physics. He served in the U.S. Army and was currently employed a custodian at the U.S. Post Office in Waterloo, for 30 years.

Survived by: his wife of Waterloo; two sons, Samuel Rice and Curt Gregory both of Waterloo; 5 grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Sandy) of North Carolina; three sisters, Ruth Ann (Monte) Knudson of Marshalltown, Diana Rickard of Calmar, Iowa and JoAnne (Scott) Pohl of Davenport

Preceded in death by: his parents; his sister, Barbara McKinney.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo and Evansdale Amvets Post 19 & 31 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday, continuing for one hour before services at the funeral home.

Memorials: directed to the family.

Bill loved playing cards, board games, target shooting and line dancing. He loved everyone, friends and family alike. He had a special bond with his sons, Curt and Sam, and entered Cathy and the boy’s lives when they needed him most. He will be forever loved.
