Jessie Elaine (Clark Stawicki) Cone

Jessie Elaine (Clark, Stawicki) Cone passed away peacefully into the Kingdom of God on September 12, 2017, after a stroke and short battle with cancer.

Born to Milton Charles and Alice Jane (Beaumont) Clark in Marietta township on April 13, 1928, in Crawford County near Steuben, Wisconsin.

In March 1934, they moved to the farm near Steuben bordered by the Kickapoo River when Jessie’s father married Nellie Mae Cramer Davis. The farm was a three-tiered farm with a field at the bottom, a spring, and the Kickapoo Chief Railroad running along the highway. The barn and house were in the middle level with the hill behind the house and a small field on top. There were plenty of wild berries, some apple trees, various nuts and good fishing. It was a very happy home life and there was always something to do.

Jessie attended eight years in a one room Posey school, one year at Wauzeka High School, one year at Steuben High School and two years at Boscobel Public High School. She made several life-long friends with whom she stayed in touch over all these years.

Later on Jessie went to work at Mendota State Hospital in Madison, WI, where she met and married Edward Stawicki in 1952. They soon moved to Milwaukee and had two sons, Edward Jr. and James. Following her divorce Jessie moved to Madison in 1965 with her sons and worked at the hospital again for a year until she was hired at the Madison Post Office where she remained for 11 years. While in Madison she met Robert Cone and following a short courtship they married and moved to his home in Waterloo, IA in 1977. Once in Waterloo, she worked for Harmony Health Care for 8 years until she retired in 1996.

After retirement and the death of Robert Cone, Jessie was introduced to the Truth by her sister, Cleo in 2001. In 2003, Jessie professed her faith and was baptized. She was very happy with her church, family and friends.

We would like to thank Cedar Valley Hospice for their help with Jessie in her last days to make her comfortable and allow her to be home, which is where she wanted to be with her family and dog, Stormy.

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Alice Clark; her husband, Robert M. Cone, Jr.; her son, James D. Stawicki; her brother, Ralph Clark; her sisters: Cleo O’Kane, Claire Morton, Olive Coe, and Ruby Bennett; her infant sisters, Opal and Myna Clark; a granddaughter, Melissa (Stawicki) Swinford; brothers-in-law: William and George Cone; sisters-in-law: Vera Stuber, Evelyn Grant, and Katherine Waterman; and a stepchild, Mary Jane Hild.

Jessie is survived by her son, Edward (Laurie) Stawicki Jr. of Waterloo, IA; her daughter-in-law Shelia Stawicki of Scottsboro, AL; Stepchildren: Faydillis Ganzerla of Mesa, AZ, Pamela Uyttebrock of Oceanside, CA, and Roger Cone of Payson, AZ; her sister, Freda (Marlin) Teschendorf of Madison, 7 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, step family members and all who have been very dear and good to her. Jessie would like to also acknowledge friends who have always been there for her: Shirley Beatie of Boscobel, WI; Ilyf Reynolds of Boscobel. Also by all of her brothers and sisters in the Truth who have been with her and helped with her care. Thank you to all who have been friends and neighbors to her. She loved you all.
