Biography--

Greg Freshwater, 27, of Hudson, Iowa, died at Covenant Medical Center on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from injuries received in an accident while running.

Greg was born June 30, 1990, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the son of Jeff and Tina Halligan Freshwater. He graduated from Denver High School in 2008 and received an Associate Degree in Swine Management from Kirkwood Community College, an Associate Degree in Fire Science from Hawkeye Community College where he was currently a Paramedic/EMT student.

Greg loved the farm and had worked for Mashoff Farms, Soules Farms, and still worked at Degner-Jewell Farms. He had previously been a fire fighter with Marshalltown Fire Department and joined Waterloo Fire Rescue in November 2016.

Greg had the biggest heart you could imagine, at least three times his size. He loved Brittany, loved people, loved life, and made friends instantly. His compassion led him to his job; he loved being a fire fighter and looked forward to becoming a paramedic. He loved boating with uncle Marty and enjoying sunsets with his mom and dad – Greg did love life. He was a member of FFA, 4H and the International Association of Fire Fighters.

He is survived by his parents, Jeff and Tina Freshwater of Hudson; sister, Katlyn Freshwater of Waterloo; his special friend, Brittany Lind of Cedar Falls; paternal grandmother, Joyce Freshwater of Waterloo; maternal grandmother, Marlene Halligan of Waterloo; godmother, Vicki Collum; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Greg was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandfathers.
