Robert Lewis “Pony” Wilcox II was born in Portsmouth, VA, on February 14, 1965, son of Robert and Jesse (Ivey) Wilcox. As a “Navy baby” he grew up and attended schools in Virginia. In 2001, Pony came to Waterloo to be with his father. On the day he arrived, he met Merry Thies in Evansdale and from then the two were always together. Pony and Merry wed on November 11, 2011 at 11:11 am. They lived throughout the area in Waverly, Cedar Falls, Evansdale and Waterloo. They dreamed of buying a project house and collected many items to decorate and fill that home. Pony loved music, particularly vintage vinyl, and he and Merry collected many albums by his favorite artists. They were looking forward to seeing Bob Seger this Fall on his farewell tour.

Pony passed away at home on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at the age of 52 years. He is survived by his wife, Merry; his parents; six children; two half-brothers; one half-sister; several grandchildren; and his beloved cats, Louie and Biggie. Pony was a big man with a bigger heart and left an enormous void in his passing.
