Visitation:
August 7, at Locke Funeral Home; and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the church.

Biography--

Virginia “Ginny” Gertrude Rathbun, age 93, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Cedar Valley Hospice Home on Wednesday, August 2, 2017.

She was born on October 3, 1923, in Jesup, Iowa; the daughter of Eugene and Mabel Young Chase. She graduated from Independence High School in 1941.

Virginia married Vernon "Bud" Rathbun May 31, 1942; he preceded her in death on September 24, 2015.

She worked at John Deere as an inspector during her husband's time in the military and as a Prisoner of War (POW). Later she was a homemaker and a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.

Virginia was a member of First United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the American Ex Prisoners of War. She volunteered for RSVP.

Virginia enjoyed bowling, oil painting, craft work and sewing. She and her family spent a lot of time at the cabin, which Bud and her built, on Holiday Lake.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Jo (Mark) Sanborn of Waterloo; a son, Vernon (Barb) Rathbun, Jr. of Owasso, OK; three sisters, Ruth Kurth of Portland, OR, Mable Bantz of Independence, IA, and Jane Dumond of Tucson, AZ; a brother, Eugene Chase of Andover, KS; two grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Morgan of Pleasantville, IA and Katie (Chris) Gaudian of Hudson, IA; four great grandchildren, Joe and Sophie Morgan of Pleasantville, and Abby and Andrew Gaudian of Hudson.

She was preceded by her parents; her husband, Bud; and three sisters: Thelma Magee, Grace Taylor and Arlene Rathbun.
