Obituary for Helen Louise Thompson

Helen Louise Thompson, 90, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, August 2, at Northcrest Specialty Care.

She was born March 9, 1927, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Henry James and Zeola Lucille Bouck Gage. She married Ronald Dean Thompson on June 6, 1948, in Waterloo.

Helen graduated from Waterloo West School and was a teacher’s aide at Bunger Junior High as well as a cashier for Jewel Tea Company.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald of Waterloo; her daughter, Zoe (John) Schaefer of Waterloo; three sons: Mark (Lenna Sue) Thompson of Delhi, Van (Janelle) Thompson of Viroqua, Wisc, and Jeff (Theresa) Thompson of Cedar Falls; eleven grandchildren: Trevor Thompson, Adam Thompson, Emily Tanner, Zane Schaefer, Jacob Schaefer, Zachary Schaefer, Rachel Schaefer, Julie Gleason, Dane Thompson, Andrea Thompson, and Michaelynn Thompson; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death: by her parents.

Services: Public visitation from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, August 6, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 5 p.m. Celebration of Life Service. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Memorials: may be directed to the family for a future nursing scholarship at Allen College.

Helen and Ron enjoyed many years together in Waterloo, Lake Delhi, and Apache Junction, AZ. She loved her flowers, playing golf and playing cards.
