Obituary for Donald S. Frana

Donald S. Frana, 81, of Waterloo, died Sunday, July 30, at UnityPoint Health Allen Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 27, 1935, in Lime Springs, the son of William and Lillian Jirak Frana. He married Shirley Beck on August 9, 1958, in Cresco.

Donald served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed at Rath Packing Company for thirty years and then was employed in the housekeeping department at Allen Hospital for seventeen years. Don had a lifelong love of camping, fishing, and gardening; as well as a love of rescue animals, many of whom he took in as pets.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Waterloo; two daughters, Annette (David) Campbell of Norwalk and Theresa (Robert) Decker of Brandon, S.D.; two grandchildren, Katie Campbell and Colby Campbell; a sister, Vivian Phillips of Cresco; a sister-in-law, Ethel Frana of Cresco.

Preceded in death by his brother, Edmund Frana; two sisters, Wilma Blomgren and Jean Frymire.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 3, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with a 2 p.m burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lime Springs. Full military rites will be conducted at the church by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31, assisted by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
