Biography--

Mary Schmelzer, 87, of Waterloo, Iowa, and formerly of West Union, died Tuesday, July 18, at Country View Care Facility.

She was born June 23, 1930, in West Union to Arthur and Eva Maller Schmelzer.

She graduated from West Union High School in 1948 and received her RN degree from Loras College Division of Nursing. She worked as an RN in Phoenix, Chicago, and at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo and Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls. She retired in 1980. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Charismatic Prayer Community, and Legion of Mary at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survived by: a sister: Dorothy (Donald) Novak of Waterloo; and a brother, Alfred (Rosalea) Schmelzer of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: four sisters, Theresa Kuhn, Sister Mary Christine, Sister Mary Gertrude and Angie Bagge; and five brothers, John, Maurice, Raymond, Joseph and Edmund Schmelzer.
