Bonnie J. Schares, 90, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Lakeview Landing.
She was born September 2, 1926, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Louis Henry and Bertha Dickermann Rose. She married Gerald N. Schares on October 30, 1946 and he died May 16, 1985.
Bonnie graduated from Jesup High School in 1943 and was employed at Sears, at the switchboard in the catalog department, and automotive department. She was also employed with the Alzheimer’s Association and Hawkeye Agency on Aging until her retirement. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Linda Ludwig of Waterloo and Jeannie (Mike) Hewitt of Battle Creek, Mich; three sons, Randy (Christine) Schares of Mesa, Ariz, Kenneth (Teri) Schares of Jesup, Gary (Annette) Schares of Cedar Lake, Ind; ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: her parents; four sisters, Ethel (Sherman) Martin, Muriel Rose, Dorothy (Cyril) Franck, and Betty (John) Fuller; a brother, Dale (Florence) Rose; a son-in-law, Steve Ludwig; two grandchildren, Emily Barkow and Nicholas Schares.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 24, at St. Edward Catholic Church, Waterloo, with burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Oelwein. Public visitation from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation also one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to Friendship Village, St. Edward Catholic Church, Alzheimer’s Association, or Cedar Valley Hospice.
Bonnie loved the Lord, her family, flowers, and especially ice cream and french fries.
