Michael Rottinghaus (1946-2016)
WATERLOO, IOWA — Michael Dennis Rottinghaus, 70, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, August 17, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, in Waterloo.
He was born July 22, 1946, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Firmin and Alma Gales Rottinghaus. He married Patricia Hansen on Jan. 25, 1975, at St. Edward Catholic Church, Waterloo.
Michael served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was involved in farming for many years. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion Nugent Demuth Post 714, and a member of the UNI Panther Scholarship Club.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Timothy (Teri) of Waterloo; five daughters, Julie (John) Miller of Gilbertville, Jennifer (John) Tudor of Waterloo, Sarah (Evan) Olson of Waverly, and Bridget Rottinghaus and Barbara Rottinghaus, both of Grimes; 14 grandchildren, Clayton, Nicholas, Natalie, Adeline, Mara, Sophia, Amelia, Ellery, Jacob, Samuel, Jotham, Curtis, Dustin and Derrick; four brothers, James (Karen) of La Porte City, John (Dessie) of Waterloo, Steven (Karen) of Brighton, Mich, and Gerald, also of Waterloo; and a sister, Cheryl (Robert) Kolar of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Sandra Franken.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in Sancta Maria Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Full military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Nugent Demuth Post 714, assisted by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 21, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 2 p.m. rosary and 6 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to Immaculate Conception Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
