Constance "Connie" Riggs

July 3, 1923 - July 6, 2017

Constance “Connie” Eleanor Riggs, 94, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, July 6, 2017 at NewAldaya Lifescapes.

Connie was born July 3, 1923 in Waupaca, Wisconsin, the daughter of William H. & Mable D. (Baldwin) Ottman. She married Caryl A. Middleton April 6, 1963 in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death October 25, 1997. She married Carl Riggs September 18, 1999 in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death January 11, 2016.

Connie graduated from Appleton Senior High School in 1941, from Iowa State Teachers’ College with a B.A. in Education, Kindergarten-Primary Grades and received her M.A. in Education from the University of Iowa in 1959. She was a teacher for 31 years at many Iowa and Wisconsin public and laboratory schools, retiring in 1978.

Known for her steadfast faith, her positive outlook, and her sense of humor, Connie was an active member of Nazareth Lutheran Church; Iota Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma; and P.E.O. Chapter OJ, Cedar Falls.

Survivors include three sons: Howard (Lorraine) Middleton of Cumming, Georgia, Paul (Ann) Riggs of Ottumwa, Iowa and Dr. Stephen (Janice) Riggs of Cedar Falls: two daughters, Carolyn (Brad) Jarvey of Sun City West, Arizona and Rebecca (John) Gebhart of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Sidney Ottman of Monterey, California and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; three brothers: Philip, Jere, and James Ottman; two sisters, Amy Ottman and Corinne Karweick, and one grandchild, Kevin Middleton.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Nazareth Lutheran Church with inurnment at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to Nazareth Lutheran Church or NewAldaya Lifescapes. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
