Obituary for AnnaMay L. Gavigan

Waterloo, Iowa – AnnaMay L. Gavigan, 78, of Waterloo, died Friday, July 7 at Pinnacle Specialty Care in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

She was born June 20, 1939 in North Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Clair and Marcella (Ungs) Carney. She graduated from North Washington High School in 1957. On April 6, 1959, she married John Gavigan in Black Hawk County. He preceded her in death in 1996. She worked as a teacher’s assistant for the Waterloo Public Schools until her retirement in 1996.

She is survived by five sons: Donald of Waterloo, Robert of Waterloo, Richard (Sylvia) of Evansdale, Brian of Waterloo, Kevin of Waterloo; by two daughters, Nancy Gavigan of Waterloo, and Susan (Jerry) James of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; seven brothers: Francis (Lois) Carney of Des Moines, Jack (Roberta) Carney of Stockton, MO, Tom (Debbie) Carney of Arvada, CO, Duane (Janice) Carney of Unionville, MO, Pat (Carol) Carney of North Liberty, Gary (Linda) Carney of Cedar Falls and Dean of Waterloo; and by one sister, Joan (David) Farus of Lafayette, CO.

Preceded in death by her husband; and by three brothers: Ronald, Jim, and Larry Carney.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30am Wednesday, July 12, at St Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Tuesday, July 11 at Richardson Funeral Service where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary.

Visitation also for one hour prior to the service at church. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
