Biography--

Richard A. "Butch" Zummak, age 73, of Evansdale, Iowa, died at UnityPoint Health -- Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes, on June 13, 2017.

He was born on August 19, 1943, in Oelwein, Iowa; the son of Albert Otto and Alice Mae (Chase) Zummak. Butch graduated in 1961 from West Central High School in Maynard. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam receiving an honorable discharge in 1964.

He married Barbara Jean Harriman on December 5, 1964, at Maywood First United Methodist Church in Waterloo.

Butch worked for the railroad for two years, John Deere and Co. in the four-wheel-drive dept. for 35 ½ years, retiring in 2001. He then worked for Allied Barton Security at the John Deere Engine Works for 15 years.

He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He was Past Master of Waterloo Lodge #105; member of Black Hawk Lodge #65, Cedar Falls; Past High Priest of Tabernacle #52; Past Eminent Commander of Ascalon Commandery #25; Past Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of Iowa and Past President of the El Mecca Firehouse Gang. He was a member of Evansdale AmVets Post #31.

Survivors include his wife, Barb Zummak of Evansdale; a son, Allen Richard (Karen Siler) Zummak of Dunkerton; a daughter, Debbie Jean (Kathy Hill) Zummak of Nagaunee, MI; five grandchildren, David Murphy, Alexandria Zummak, Caleb Zummak, Tyler Zummak, and Allie Mae Zummak; a great-granddaughter, Bailey Zummak; and a sister-in-law, Kim Zummak of Litchfield, MN.

Butch was preceded in death by a grandson, Brendon Zummak; and two brothers, Clifton Zummak and Raymond Zummak.
