CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Glenn E. Holmes, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Western Home Communities Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center.

He was born March 15, 1929 in Cedar Falls, son of H. Roy and Amy (Hanna) Holmes. He married Mary Jane Schwandt on June 18, 1950. She died February 26, 1978. He then married Freddie Piggott on October 27, 1978 at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls.

He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1946 and was employed by the University of Northern Iowa for 46 years, retiring in 1991 as manager of the power plant. He was Past Worshipful Master of Black Hawk Masonic Lodge #65 A.F. & A.M., Past Grand Master of the Grand Council of Iowa, member of El Kahir Shrine, Eastern Star, and the Red Cross of Constantine.

He is survived by his wife of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Debra (John) McDermott of Atlantic and Doreen (Ed) Schellhase of Norwalk; two step-daughters, Cynthia Crowe of Columbia, MO and Rebecca (Charlie) Ruiz of Coolidge, AZ; by five grandchildren: Michael McDermott, Melanie (Justin) Gross, Michelle (Keith) Ervin, Jennifer (James) Buehner and Daniel (Ashley) Schellhase; by twelve great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Dale, Wayne and Donald Holmes.

Memorial Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with inurnment at a later date in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Service, where there will be a 6:30 p.m. public Masonic Service.
