Obituary for Helen M. Praska

Helen M. Praska, 89, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, May 3, at home from complications of breast cancer.

She was born September 26, 1927, in Pine Island, Minnesota, daughter of Leonard and Blanche Morrow Webb. She married William E. Praska on August 28, 1948, in New Hampton. He died November 22, 2006.

Helen graduated from Mantorville, Minnesota High School and Gates College. She was a legislative secretary at the Iowa Capital in Des Moines begining in 1946 and was employed with Waterloo John Deere Tractor Works beginning in 1951. She returned to work at Hawkeye Institute of Technology in 1981, after raising her family. She was very active with local elections in Waterloo for many years.

Helen's greatest blessing in life were her children and grandchildren. She always put others first and had a heart of gold. Passions were watching birds in her backyard, especially cardinals. She loved reading, going to Northern Minnesota with family, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She should have been a contestant.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Charles in infancy and Dewayne; and a sister, Virginia Dietz.
