DUNKERTON, IOWA – Arlene E. Widdel, 83 years old, of Dunkerton, and formerly of Dewar, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, Iowa, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born May 29, 1933, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Leo Bernard Hayes and Ilene (Fettkether) Hayes. Arlene graduated from Dunkerton High School with the class of 1950. On July 3, 1951, she was united in marriage to Marlyn William “Bill” Widdel at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo. Arlene was a medical secretary and worked for a number of local doctors and offices over the years; most recently at Cedar Valley Eye Care. She was a long time member of St. Francis Catholic Church – Barclay, rural Dunkerton, IA, where she dedicated a lot of her time teaching and volunteering.

Arlene is survived by five daughters, Susan Hauptly of Dunkerton, IA, Pat Knebel of Dunkerton, IA, Leanne (Wayne) Musch of Waterloo, IA, Julianne (Ben) Allaway of Des Moines, IA, Kathleen Widdel of Dewar, IA; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and 1 twin sister, Darlene (Raymond) Hoffman of Waterloo, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marlyn in 2010; and one grandson, Lucas Hauptly.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. – Saturday, April 1, 2017, at St. Francis Catholic Church – Barclay, rural Dunkerton, IA, with Fr. Lyle L. Wilgenbusch as celebrant. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Olivia Farley, Alicia Wilson, Tessa Riggins, Holly Musch, Isabel Allaway, Amelia Allaway, Sadie Whitson, and Abby Robinson. Casket Bearers will be Patrick Reynolds, Sam Hauptly, Ian Pope, Nick Hauptly, Colton Robinson, Wesley Musch, and Tyler Musch. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 31, 2017 at White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a 4:00 p.m. parish rosary and 6:00 p.m. parish vigil service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
