U.S. VETERAN

John F. Engel, 69, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa.

He was born July 13, 1946, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Paul and Mildred (Oleson) Engel. John married Judy Weisert on December 7, 1968 in Jubilee, Iowa. He was a 1964 graduate of Hudson High School and served in Korea as a cook in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

John was a farmer all of his life and worked at the Hudson Coop for several years, where he served on the Board for over 12 years and was former Vice President. John also worked at Cedar Metal Works and was in the maintenance department at Sartori Memorial Hospital for 24 years. He enjoyed farming, watching trains, spending time with his family and camping.

John is survived by his wife, Judy Engel, of rural Cedar Falls; two sons, Jason (Christy) Engel of Hudson and Jeremy (Tamarah Scheibler) Engel of Archer, Iowa; six grandchildren, Chelsey, Nick, Jayden, Kaylena, Kourtney and Emma; a great grandchild, Paisley Rae; two brothers, Lynn (Edith) Engel of Marion, Iowa and Mark Engel of Atlanta, Georgia, and two sisters, Sue Ann (Don) Dunshee of Tomball, Texas and Norma Hoos of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, June 11, 2016, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hudson, with burial at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hudson. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 4—8:00 pm Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church.
