November 21, 1947 - January 16, 2017

Pamela Raye Truesdell, 69, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and formerly of Cedar Falls, died at her home on Monday, January 16, 2017.

She was born November 21, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond Lee and Florence Ruth (Pace) Truesdell. Pamela earned her BA and MFA from the University of Northern Iowa. She was retired from the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis after more than 30 years of service.

She is survived by her two sisters, Penny (Dean) Becker of New Hartford, Iowa and Kim (Rusty) Caruthers of Mesa, Arizona, seven nieces and nephews, and nine great nieces and nephews.

Pamela was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Patricia Kunkler.

Pam had several loves in her life. Reading, her cats, Sister Trips, the house we grew up in on Grand Blvd, her families (both blood and work), wrapping presents, making chocolates and greeting cards, tomatoes (both growing and eating), and most recently her knitting. Who would have thought that Pam, the acerbic, demanding woman who knew more swear words than anyone and knew exactly how to use them, would be absolutely enthralled with knitting! And, like everything else she did, she did it beautifully. Wednesday night with her friends, knitting, was her favorite night of the week.

She loved her sisters and we all cherished our time together. The last 10 years or so we made it a point to gather at least once a year, just the sisters. No kids, no husbands, just sisters letting that special dynamic that sisters have come to the top. It has given us wonderful memories of each other and together as adults.

She adored her niece Erin and her nephews Jason, Steve, Brad, Rod, Cody and Jacob. She was that aunt that got you the goofy, artsy, noisy, guns with darts gifts for your birthday or Christmas. She was ready to play a game, shop for a wedding dress, try on tiaras, or get you the best tickets you ever had to see something at the Guthrie. She introduced us to Louie Anderson, Christmas Carol, Penn and Teller, and Shakespeare. And from the third row center. Wow.

This time of year was her least favorite. To cheer her up and make Spring seem closer, she would get hyacinths that were forced to bloom in February. Sometimes, tulips or daffodils or crocus would be in the tub too, but there were always hyacinths. Their perfume would spread through her house and, if you closed your eyes, you could almost believe spring was on its way. She kept this poem by her computer so she could see it everyday-

“If of thy mortal goods thou art bereft,

And of thy slender stores two loaves alone to thee are left,

Sell one, and with the dole,

Buy hyacinths to feed thy soul.”

Rest easy Pam. We love you.

A memorial gathering will be 2—4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a Humane Society of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
